The information that you might have to exchange can be a bitcoin wallet address, forum usernames, location, IP addresses, and can even involve a face-to-face meeting. Peer-to-peer exchanges are kind of like your local marketplace. It would be very troublesome for you to hope to randomly stumble across that person on a normal exchange because the chances of that happening are meager. Instead of that method, you can initiate a peer-to-peer transaction with that person, and it should make your purchase A LOT easier.

These are his un manly words. Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals!

Please don't be offend by that. The keen-eyed, movie-loving amongst you might recognise that as a quote from Home Alone 2. I've been thinking about Christmas a lot recently. As my eldest bambinos are now at the age when Christmas is actually a thing — something they ask about and can recognise and look forward to — I've been thinking about what it was about my festive history that makes this time of year so special.

In recent years and also in previous Christmas columns in. I now think differently. Don't get me wrong, toys are awesome, and you are reading the words of a 35 year old father of three who makes all the excuses in the world to pop into Toys-R-Us for a gander LEGO and Nerf, if you're asking. However, memories have started to emerge from my childhood in which I genuinely didn't care about the wrapped-up swag beneath the tree, instead enjoying the entire strange, bizarre, and out-of-time few days that Christmas was.

And still is. For a kid that used to lose his mind when friends called 'round for me without either phoning. For a start, no school, which was great. But also, my parents would be home from work, even during the week, and regular scheduled TV went out of the window. Houses were decorated strangely, people acted differently, and there was one day of the whole year when my family all awoke early — without protest — together.

I remember staring out of my bedroom window at the street and houses beyond, and thinking how weird everything seemed. Like the world had taken a break, just for a day, and that everyone was happy. Obviously, these recollections are coming from an admittedly pleasant middle-class area of Doncaster they do exist, honest and not, say,.

Make the Christmas and New Year period as mental as possible. Play up to the bizarre irregularity of the season by taking your kids out at night, get up early to count ducks, and recreate some of the traps from Home Alone. Your kids will definitely fondly remember an iron falling on your face, that's for damn sure. Hold off on the blowtorch, mind. Go somewhere late on Christmas Eve, take a river stroll on New Year's Day, and let the kids stay up late.

Damascus or Mosul or Kandahar, so the happiness was relative to my own childhood point of view. So calm down, Amnesty. Those memories have served to remind me that, when planning a special Christmas for my own kids, it isn't about the stuff they get, but rather the stuff they feel. This won't be news to you, and I'm sure most personal columns you read at this time of year will all be about 'hugs, not gifts', and 'quality time, not Quality Street', or even 'burn immigrants!

But instead I'm saying take the emphasis off a fat man in a red suit breaking into your home on Christmas Eve, and concentrate on the opportunities to do weird and memorable things together. I don't know. All the presents you wrap up for them will be enthusiastically torn into on Christmas morning, but pretty much forgotten in the years to come. Let's hope his employer, The Space Rangers, pay him enough to cover the amount. This story could've so easily been titled: 'Idiot does stupid thing', couldn't it? Traffic Police across the country have seen a massive cut to their numbers, with most of the UK's forces reporting a reduction in the amount of officers and constables currently patrolling the roads. Because of this, one particular group of road users have been approached to act as the Police's eyes and ears.

Driving Instructors in Essex have been asked to 'keep an eye out' by the local force, to help them spot car crime, assault, and also help them find wanted crims. As driving teachers spend all day driving around, it gives them the perfect opportunity to see naughtiness taking place. However, they should also be keeping an eye on the road on which their students are driving, and not wondering if that suspicious man in the tracksuit they just passed is the same one wanted for house breaking in the area.

The number of traffic accidents might increase, but maybe the Essex Police are hoping that only criminals will be hit? We call this a fail. Think of a moped and you might automatically think Vespa. Joking aside, this is great news as motorcycle makers also start to offer their customers electric and hybrid options, as well as larger car firms. The OFT have now looked into this and are changing their guidelines to make this practice of 'fake' price reductions a thing of the past, so hopefully by the middle of next year we should see an end to it. Don't worry, we're not talking about some mass-training programme to get everyone around the walls in less than 20 minutes Last year a trial by TalkTalk, Sky, and CityFibre resulted in 14, homes in the city being connected to the super fast Ultra Fibre Optic Network, enjoyably referred to as UFO , delivering average internet speeds of 1Gbps - which is fast, times faster than the average broadband speed.

Too often, we gardeners think colour has to come from flowers. Not so. Shade plants without flowers can give us colour all season long. Most Heucheras are low, mounding plants. They increase in size from year to year but are slow to multiply. Their leaf structure can be rounded or lobed. Many leaves are toothed, which gives them even more interest and texture. Heucheras, commonly known as Coral Bells, were once a common addition to gardens with very little to offer aside from small spikes of flowers above tidy round green foliage.

Its large purple metallic leaves are reminiscent of maple leaves, and it is still easily found and very popular in shady gardens. More dark leaves have come along for those of us still in our purpleblack phase. Obsidian has lustrous purplish-black leaves whilst Blackout is nearly jet-black and very glossy.

It is always good to play off a dark leaved variety with a light tone otherwise the dark is lost in the shadows. Moist, well-draining soil, a little on the alkaline side grows them best. If your soil is acid, add some lime every year to the planting bed and work it into the soil. Heucheras tend to grow a woody.

When the Heuchera leaves are getting sparse, most likely every four or five years or so, you will need to rejuvenate them. In early autumn, dig up the mound and plant it deeper, with most of the woody centre below ground. Be sure to keep the crown above the soil surface. The crown is where all of the leaves emerge from the centre of the plant.

Be sure soil does not cover this area or you will probably lose your plant. To conclude, Heucheras are a fantastic addition to any size of garden in virtually any aspect. They can be used as a front of the border plant, planted in a container on its own or accompanied with other plants in a planted arrangement. They are easy to grow and offer interest all year; every garden should have a Heuchera in it somewhere.

However, there is one notable apple with Yorkshire origins. By this I mean apples developed or first grown in Yorkshire. It has to be said that Yorkshire has not been at the forefront of English apple growing. Most well-known types originated in other counties, mainly in the south.

The fruit will store for eating from November to midJanuary if kept in a cool place. This means it will not pollinate other apples and so needs two other compatible apples nearby to provide pollen for it and each other. As well as being a strong grower, Ribston is disease resistant and a regular cropper.

Unlike some of my trees that find it necessary to have holidays, Ribston provides a good quantity of fruit year after year. There are other Yorkshire apples. For me though, none come close to Ribston Pippin for ease of cultivation and quality of fruit. Call Chris on My acer has pinkish spots on a few of its branches and the leaves died back early in the year. Could you please help?

This sounds very much like coral spot, which is very common and widespread. The fungus occurs mainly as saprobe on dead branches, but also as a parasite causing die-back on many woody plants, including acers, apples, beech, cercis, currants, elaeagnus, elms, figs, gooseberries, limes, magnolias, mulberries, pyracanthas, and walnuts.

However, it is rare on conifers. The symptoms are masses of pin-head salmon-pink cushion-like pustules which occur at all times of the year on dead and dying twigs and branches. Large branches may wilt in summer if they are affected near to their base, and sometimes a small canker may be produced which gives rise to the girdling die-back.

The fungus probably. It will also spread into frostdamaged twigs. Once inside the branches the fungus invades the water-conducting elements and so causes the wilt symptoms. Spread of the pathogen occurs by conidia produced in the pink pustules. There may be several strains of the fungus differing in virulence, but this is uncertain at present.

Eradication of the pathogen is very difficult because it is so commonly present on dead wood. Rigorous hygiene can help, however Diseased soft fruit bushes are best uprooted entirely and burned, but valuable ornamentals should be pruned free of affected wood to at least six inches 15cm beyond the visible symptoms, the affected debris destroyed, and the remaining healthy parts of the plants sprayed immediately and then twice more at three-weekly intervals with an approved fungicide.

I have a rambling rose that has not been pruned for two years. Could you please advise on pruning and deadheading? Pruning is very easy. In the UK, and other countries with relatively mild winters, January and February are the best months to do it. In areas with very cold winters, pruning should be delayed until spring growth is just starting.

On all plants, remove old, woody, dead, and diseased stems. The previous year's flowering shoots should be reduced to three or four buds of six inches, and the strong new stems tied in, cutting out older ones as necessary. These should be left to ramble at will unless they need to be constrained. In which case, prune them like climbers. These, and other repeat-flowering shrub roses, should.

Always prune to an outwards facing bud. Hybrid teas and floribundas should be cut down harder by between a half and three-quarters and some of the older main stems thinned out. These should be left alone or lightly pruned by no more than a third and thinned very lightly.

Dead-heading: This is the removal of spent flowers. It encourages repeatflowering and makes for a tidier plant. Either remove just the dead flower or cut the stem down to the first full leaf. In a warm garden, it may be beneficial to summer prune by cutting the spent flowering shoots back by about 18 inches. This will encourage more compact growth and quicker repeatflowering. And now the home of the Archaeology department of the University of York. Fortunately it's simply known as King's Manor. Let's peer back into it's history, shall we? But in the middle ages the church had all the money. Like, all of it. So much so, that St. Mary's Abbey, which now lays in ruins in the Museum Gardens, was one of the richest establishments in the country. So rich in fact, that the head of the abbey, the Abbot, could.

That is where King's Manor started; the comfortable on-site lodgings of the abbots. And that's how it was from around until , when a rotund chap called Henry declared himself head of the Church of England. The lavish manor became property of the crown in , the final Abbot was booted out, and the building became the headquarters for The Council of the North.

Oh, and it was at this point that the structure was expanded and enlarged The use as the headquarters cemented York's status as capital of the north and as the city second only to London. The coat of arms that still sits above the main doorway is that of Charles although, if you look close enough, you'll see the letter N carved backwards. King's Manor was the place that the most powerful people in the north came together to run this part of the country. However, the room in which those important decisions were made, the Council Chamber, is now.

The area saw intensive fighting and cannon-fire in the s, especially at the time of the Siege of York. The Royalists finally surrendered to the Parliamentarians in , and obviously King's Manor lost it's important role. Because no King. After a brief stint as the home of the Governor of York, the building experienced a rather dodgy couple of centuries.

In it was divided up into separate apartments and leased out to private individuals. The address would've been quite desirable, and certainly the historical connection meant it was the Rowntree's Wharf of it's day. Still, from centre of the entire north of England, to some random's fancy crash pad in a matter of years is quite sad.

During the time of the school, the buildings were enlarged once more, including what was the Headmistress's house in ; the building which today is closest to the Art Gallery. The school was named for William Wilberforce, the famous Yorkshire abolitionist, with a statue of the man standing in the grounds for many years. Reports from the early 20th century say the school was a vibrant place, with the children playing in the courtyards and taking regular.

The school closed in the s, with City of York Council taking over the buildings in Soon after that, they were leased to the brand new University of York in to act as the uni's city-centre campus and house their important archaeology department.

And, 50 years on, it still serves that purpose. Just like much of York's oldest buildings, King's Manor has been both nationally significant, and also tragically wasted and underused. And hey, if the modern north of England ever enjoys an uprising against the south, we know just where to establish our own parliament. Dear Uni of York, are you really that attached to King's Manor?

WELL SORRY for thinking for one month of my life I might have a small bash at a little bit of self improvement - let me just crawl back into my lifetime of debauchery and dissatisfaction lol.

If that makes me a lesser person than you then so be it. I had a bash at some small resolutions last year - I wanted to save a thousand pounds, I wanted to lose a stone, and I wanted to find a hobby. Imagine my surprise at the end of. The first and most important decision I made was setting specific goals. Without a clear goal I had nothing solid to aim for. I thought about why I wanted to achieve them.

I was also terrible with money and it was causing me serious stress. I needed to find a way to manage my money marginally better - saving is a great place to start. I made a song and dance out of my goals too; I told everyone in the hope that I would be embarrassed to fail. It worked a treat.

You can use your health insurance or pay for yourself to gain rapid access to expert care without leaving York. Pray silence. There is also the added bonus of no major tournament for the England football team to ruin our summer, so hopefully will be relatively successful.

Call Chris on Thank you. Pudsey has enjoyed his second day at Bookpoint.
